Italy combines highly demanded destinations (Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Florence) with urban logistics that require attention: restricted traffic zones, narrow streets and tolls. Planning the city-centre access matters as much as choosing the route.
Routes from Madrid
Madrid–Milan is about 1,450 km via France and Switzerland; Madrid–Turin 1,350 km; Madrid–Rome 1,950 km along the Mediterranean; Madrid–Naples exceeds 2,000 km. Expect 2–3 days with Alpine tunnels and tolls.
ZTL: the key to the centre
Many Italian cities have Zone a Traffico Limitato. A truck cannot enter without authorisation. In Rome, Florence or Milan you must book a loading zone and coordinate the time. In Venice, logistics happen in Mestre or by barge and carrying.
Tolls and fuel
Italian motorways charge per section. Switzerland requires a vignette and Austria has its own tolls. We include an estimate and warn you if the route changes due to works or restrictions.
Indicative prices
For 15–25 m³, the range including VAT is €1,600–4,600 depending on the city and service. Milan and Turin are usually cheaper than Rome, Naples or Bari. Calculate your case in the calculator.
Cities
We cover Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Venice, Verona, Genoa, Bari and Pisa.
Mistakes we avoid
- Entering a ZTL without a permit and paying fines.
- Underestimating carrying on hilly streets.
- Not reserving truck parking.
- Forgetting the Swiss vignette or Austrian tolls.
